The AK-47 is an Assault Rifle.
The AK-47 (Avtomat Kalashnikova, model 1947), developed in 1946 by Mikhail Kalashnikov, is one of the most mass produced assault rifles in history. Designed for high volume and low cost, the AK-47 is made with steel stampings. Despite it's heavy frame, the rifle has a reputation for extreme reliability in extreme battlefield conditions. It is still in use by many different militaries throughout the world, mostly countries of the former Soviet Union.
It's loose production tolerances, crude misplaced sights, and relatively underpowered round give it mediocre range and accuracy. At close range, however, the heavy 7.62x39mm cartridge provides sufficient penetration and stopping power.
